With only
two days left to go in the office, this seems as good a time as any to get the
blog up and running. Leaving work has come around so fast and it feels like the
end of an era. There are a lot of people I am really going to miss.
Oli and I
are very much getting on with the preparation, and have spent the last few
weeks chucking stuff out, looking at visa forms and paying large sums of money
to get poked in the arms with various inoculations. I thought I would have had
all the essentials from going to Vietnam four years ago, but alas I was
mistaken!
Oli has now
finished his Ph.D., so we have now set our leaving Manchester date for just
before my birthday, and will be leaving the country mid May. We’re already very
excited for our first stop with the Robson family in Voorschoten (Netherlands)
for the wonderful Emma’s birthday.
The route so
far is pretty vague through Europe, although aiming to get to Turkey by taking
in Croatia, Bosnia, Albania and Greece. From Turkey, the route depends on
politics and visas (namely Iran and Pakistan). If that part doesn’t work out we
will most likely explore Georgia and Armenia before flying from Turkey to Nepal
or Thailand. At the moment, I am definitely most excited for South East Asia,
but that could all change once we are on the road! Essentially, as long as we time it right, we should be following summer
around the world.
Looking
forward to an Easter weekend of more
packing, and drinking wine with my parents. We have so little time left in
Manchester after calling it home for almost eight years, we need to make the
most of it!
